Immune System
About the Immune System:
The immune system is responsible for the removal of dead and dying bodily cells, the destruction of cancerous cells, and serves as the body's second line of defense against pathogens like bacteria, virises, parasites, and metabolic poisons. It is able to carry out these functions through the lymphoid organs,a system which affects growth, development, and the release of lymphocytes- a special type of white blood cell that are useful when fighting off an infection. The lymphoid organs- adenoids, bone marrow, lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels Peyer's patches, spleen, thymus, and tonsils- are all responsible in unique ways for producing and activating lymphocytes.
